Intro to Safeguarding Children Course Description

For everyone who works with children and young people. This course focuses on making the environment you work in safe. The course explores ways in which people who work with children and young people to promote best practice in safeguarding. Candidates will learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse, and understand fears involved in these concerns.

 

Course Pre-requisites

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • Church personnel if the course is specifically targeted for people working in a paid or unpaid post in the Church
  • Priest or religious if the course is specifically targeted for members of the clergy or religious

 

Duration

  • Three hours

 

Aims & Objectives

The workshop will raise your awareness and specifically help you to be able to:

  • Recognise the legal obligations when working with children
  • Identify and build on best practice in safeguarding
  • What is abuse and poor practice?
  • How to respond to a disclosure of abuse
  • Recognise signs of abuse and identify what behaviour causes concern
  • Identify the actions to take if you have a concern and who can help
  • Develop your action plan for change based on the four pillars of safeguarding
    1. Safe recruitment
    2. Putting policies in place
    3. Dealing with concerns
    4. Giving the opportunity for alleged victims to come forward in a safe space
